about Flekkeroy Idrettslag

Flekkeroy Idrettslag, also called Floy is a Norwegian sports club from Flekkerøy in Kristiansand Norway. Flekkeroy IL was formed in 1950 to bring select soccer to the youth of Flekkeroy, Norway. Their mission was simple – to teach skills and develop players. What started out as a small venture has grown into a club with 30 teams, over 400 players, and many state championships under its belt. Our players come from all over Seattle, share a passion for the game, seek to improve their skills, and want to play at the highest possible level.

The history

It all really began in the late 1940s with the so-called “Lindebøs gods'” general sports involvement and their desire to bring shape and speed to Øya’s sports life. At that time, there was no organized sport on the island. Some of the Lindebøs boys were admittedly in Våg, football and athletics club. In addition, Erling Rudolfsen from Mæbø and Torbjørn Martinsen from Skålevig were involved in KIF athletics. Other than that, it was mostly “Ljåstubb” football and random man-to-man matches in quiet length, height with scissor style and “bucket-step-jump”.

The actual establishment of Flekkerøy Sports Club was staged through the association Flekkerøyfolk, whose motto for the Island was: “Higher up and further forward”. At a members’ meeting of the association on 8 July 1950, the chairman Thoralf Kristiansa suggested that a sports team should be formed. This was unanimously adopted, and in the protocol, which also included recommendations for, and support for, a sports field and gymnasium at the new school, it states, among other things, “It is a prerequisite that Øya’s youth will benefit from this.
